Bands To Know: Controlling Evolution

Well, It's been awhile. After reviewing tons of stuff, posting news, and getting back in touch with this friggin' blog, I decided to make a new BTK. This week I bring you some new blood to the progressive metal scene: Controlling Evolution.
Hailing from my current city of residence, Cleveland, Tennessee, this Three-piece progressive metal group will turn heads for all of you metal lovers. These guys have a spine-shattering technical metal sound, with tough and raw vocals and alternates into a more melodic and jazz/fusion sound, with cleaner vocals finishing up the intensity of the music they play. Their rise is sure to come faster than you know, so get in on this action before everyone else in the world does.

Here are TWO tracks to give you a feel of what you're all missing out of

09 SkullSplitter, Part 1 by Controlling Evolution

04 Caught In The Uproar by Controlling Evolution

Their latest release, In the Wake of Leviathan's Campaign, is available for a Name your fucking price download at their BANDCAMPahhhhhhhhhh
Seriously guys, if you did not listen to either of the songs above, you are extremely fucking stupid.

BLACK TUSK,new demo track on their Facebook!

Never heard of these dudes before until NOW and all I can say is that these guys are damn good even though they aren't my cup of tea.Their new Demo "SET THE DIAL" has a song thats JUST been released onto their facebook page and the title is called -drum roll- "ENDER OF ALL".Its a pretty damn good tune even if southern styled Mastodon isn't your thing.

As I saw somewhere before, someone said "Mastodon's backwater brothers" and its true, I imagined Mastodon gave birth to this by severing off some skin and cultivating it.

Nevertheless heres a link DIRECTLY to the facebook page! so check this shit out and enjoy!

Bands To Know: Abriosis

Today is July 16th. Soon, this day will be known by Abriosis day (atleast for me....)

Consisting of four members, (Taylor Lipton, Kris McDermott, Ryan McDonnell, Robin Iwasiw) Abriosis is a progressive death metal band hailing from Vancouver B.C. Canada.

If you like bands such as Necrophagist, Death, Neuraxis, Job For A Cowboy, Decapitated, or Cannibal Corpse, you'd have to be completely high off your ass to not listen to these guys. They are by far one of my all time favorite underground bands right now, and I'm almost positive they will be for years to come.

If you are not a pussy, and can handle the awesomeness of Abriosis, listen to this.

Here are a few links to get you started on your love for this band

Bands To Know: Wideyedaze

Here we are again, off to give and recieve info on who just might be the biggest metal act within the next ten years.
This week, we have yet another Chattanooga, TN band: WIDEYEDAZE

Wideyedaze consists of five members (Danial Elrod-Vocals. Nick Johnson-Drums. Sebastian LeQuire-Guitar. Rusty Johnson-Lead Guitar. Lyn Willaims ''sunshine''-Bass)

The band is a mixture of Death Metal, Grindcore, Sludge, and other elements bands such as Dying Fetus, Beneath the Massacre, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, and Rotten Sound all share.

Where do I see these guys within the next ten years? I can see them averagely big, like one of those small, under-rated relapse records bands you just have to give props to for being so awesome.

You can check out their band page on facebook if you'd like to check out some of their music.

Bands To Know: Teratological Nightmare

Everyone sounds different. Especially these guys, they may have individuality, but at the same time bring up thoughts of bands that all sound related: Good death metal bands. Teratological Nightmare are a small band from what the devil knows as Chicago, but I just call it another place with another good band. They remind me of the oldies, y'know? Cannibal, Death, Morbid Angel, etc. I heard of these guys on facebook. they said to check it out, so like the band-whipped person I am, I did. I'll admit, the growls sound kinda funny, but It's probably just the quality. If you have the time download their free EP and check them out here.
here's the tracklist of the EP
Intro
From Ash To Dust
Augury
Enigma

thanks for reading! and Don't forget to bring a Towel! (southpark pun guys, southpark pun...)

So This Is A Band To Know: Zedadiah from So This Is Suffering

Okay guys, if you haven't listened to So This Is Suffering yet, you're missing out on one of So-Cal's heaviest (and technical) bands today. They've played with some of the biggest names out there, and they deserve a lot more credit for their unique brand of Deathcore/Progressive music. Here's lead guitarist Zed answering some of our questions:

MIR: How did So This Is Suffering begin?
Zed: Zack and I were neighbors and started a band, not really expecting to actually last longer than a year. Eventually we replaced former members with the lineup we have now.

MIR: How do you think your sound has changed since the beginning of S.T.I.S?
Zed: Well I barely turned 15 when we started so you can only imagine how elementary the music was. Imagine the Harlot EP 100x worse haha The music we've been writing this year is a dramatic improvement from any thing that we've put out.

MIR: You just kicked out your singer Richard. How do you think some of your fans will respond to that? What kind of vocals should we expect?
Zed: Honestly? I think people who were quick to judge our music based off of Richard's looks might give a second listen. What kind of vocals should you expect? Still scary sounds and no inhales...isn't that what matters in this genre? haha

MIR: The So This Is Suffering E.P came out in December, are you satisfied with the outcome? When should we expect a new E.P?
Zed: Yeah, that EP was finished for well over a year. By the time we released it I was already disappointed with the musical aspect of it and ready to progress. We've been writing with the new vocalist and guitarist since January and all I can say is that the new music is a huge leap from the self titled EP, but in a good way of course. Not too sure when we will start recording it, just know it's something to look forward to.

MIR: You were in a few side projects, are any of them still active? When should we expect releases from them?
Zed: I was in a band called Kincaid with Peter Swiatkowski (former So This Is Suffering guitarist, current Murder Death Kill bassist) but that was a very short-lived project. Peter plays bass in Murder Death Kill and Blood Stands Still now, but I wouldn't know when they are releasing new music.

MIR: What's the gayest thing you've done at a show?
Zed: I witnessed our bassist get in the pit with no pants on hahaha he was high

You can listen to these dudes at www.facebook.com/sothisissuffering or www.myspace.com/sothisissuffering
Follow them on Twitter too! twitter.com/sothisistweetin
So This Is Suffering should have a lot of So-Cal dates up soon.

Bands To Know: KILLHARMONIC

Y'know those bands that you listen to that aren't big and deserve everything a band possibly can get?  That's of course how I feel about KILLHARMONIC. KILLHARMONIC is a four-piece Death metal band from the depths of Indonesia. these guys law down some heavy ass riff's that just make you want to go out of control and bash every living thing out there.  Their first release, HATE THAT NEVER SET, is a 2002 release of nothing but Brutality. Don't believe me? Check out the song Rotus Opus.
Heres a list of tunes to check out from them if you havent heard of em'!
-Polluted and Distorted
-Dark Path
-Bloodshed Murder
-Soup of Human Flesh
-Rotus Opus
-Abortus Criminallis
